The Band, Tomboy - “Ocean Song”
Music video submission for NPR’s Tiny Desk Competition
For Tomboy’s “Ocean Song,” we designed an intimate, refined setting that captures the effortless, lived-in spirit of a jam session — as if the audience had stumbled into a private rehearsal. Inspired by the easygoing, nostalgic energy of bands like The Backseat Lovers, we prioritized natural lighting and a sense of authenticity.
We positioned key furniture pieces and the band’s equipment near a west-facing window, allowing the late afternoon sun to gradually wash over the space. As the sun began to set, the warm, shifting light created a dynamic, cinematic atmosphere that moved naturally with the music. Every detail, from the casual arrangement of the instruments to the understated decor, was chosen to enhance the feeling of spontaneity while maintaining an intentional, polished aesthetic.
